DESIGN CAMP 2008

Design Camp was on hiatus during Summer 2008.  After 5 years of intensive, year-round work on DC and DI projects, Wendy Friedmeyer, the DI's Educational  Programs Coordinator, is working on a new College of Design initiative along with Assistant Professor of Architecture, John Comazzi.  This initiative, Parallel Play, is analyzing our current design education programs and exploring new ways to disseminate what we've learned from 6 years of producing DC.

Design Camp

The Design Institute has hosted an annual summer Design Camp for teens since it's inception in 2002, with generous support from Target.

Since its first year, nearly 500 teens have participated in this lively program, in which they gain hands-on experience of design for everyday life activities, choosing one of six different workshops. Taught by guest instructors in teams that pair leading local and international designers with University of Minnesota faculty, Design Camp introduces students to the varied career choices available in the wide field of design.
